Bresan Footwear C.C. was founded in Greytown, Kwazulu Natal in 1986 by John Watt and Ivan de Beer.

In 1990 John Watt bought out Ivan de Beer to take a 100% ownership of the business.
The business was well received by the footwear industry and grew substantially, with exceptional business growth it soon became necessary for a larger premises. Bresan relocated to a larger faciltiy in the industrial area of Greytown in Jan 1992.
John’s son, Alistair, joined in 1995 after earning a diploma in clothing production and set to work on designing their own in house footwear range.
Bresans experimentation of producing their own footwear range paid off with a comprehensive range of high quality formal and casual wear. Bresan range was lauched in June 1997.
In 2005, Bresan relocated its premises to Pietermaritzburg, affording it an opportunity to be more centralised and allowing for a better more convenient service to its customers. The company started operations in Pietermaritzburg at its current location, 9 Birmingham Road, Willowton Pietermaritzburg, in January 2006.
In 2010, Bresan launched its next generation of its footwear range. Quayside is a casual footwear range that combines weekend casual with stylish everyday wear.
